The Middle Ground aims to create an inclusive public space for migrant workers to socialise while simultaneously including them in mainstream society. This is to influence locals to be more open to tolerating and accepting migrant workers through eventually becoming familiar with their differences and presence. This is in hopes of reducing the hostility between the general public and migrant workers that may occur every now and then,

The chosen site is Yishun Park Hawker Centre, located nearby a handful of migrant worker dormitories. This acts as a cheaper alternative for migrant workers to go to, reducing their need to travel to hotspots such as Little India due to their lower spending power. Alternatively, it is located by a traffic junction in a primarily residential area, thus allowing for an increased exposure between various demographics.

To accommodate the needs of the existing demographic, the hawker centre was retained. Additionally, new programmes were added to benefit the various demographics. The spaces were designed according to people's behaviours and the main circulation of the site.
